Visit amusement park in Blackpool

The Blackpool Pleasure Beach in Blackpool, a coastal town in North West England, United Kingdom, is one of the oldest and most famous amusement parks in Europe. Founded in 1896 by Alderman William George Bean and his partner John Outhwaite, the park was designed following the model of American amusement parks like Coney Island, with the aim of providing unforgettable fun for both adults and children. Today, the park is run by the Thompson family in its fourth generation and is among the 20 most visited amusement parks worldwide, attracting millions of visitors annually. It is particularly famous for its impressive collection of roller coasters and its nostalgic atmosphere, which makes it a cultural landmark of Britain.

Best roller coasters in amusement park

The Blackpool Pleasure Beach is located directly on the Irish Sea and stretches over a vast area along the famous Blackpool promenade. Since its inception, it has evolved from a modest amusement spot with a few carousels and a ride through the sand dunes to a modern amusement park with world-renowned attractions. Especially in the evening, the park transforms into a magical place with thousands of lights, music, and a festive atmosphere. This blend of historical charm and modern rides makes the park unique and sets it apart from other European amusement parks.

Historic rides in Blackpool

The heart of the park is its roller coasters, some of which have historical significance while others boast superlatives. One of the most famous is "The Big One," a steel roller coaster that was the tallest, steepest, and fastest roller coaster in the world when it opened in 1994. Standing at 65 meters tall and reaching speeds of up to 119 km/h, it remains the tallest roller coaster in Britain and a must-visit for adrenaline junkies. Also legendary is the "Grand National," a wooden Moebius loop roller coaster from 1935, where two parallel tracks are designed so that the trains arrive at the opposite station. The park also houses four historical wooden roller coasters, including the 1923 "Big Dipper," the oldest operating roller coaster in the park, as well as the "Nickelodeon Streak" and the "Blue Flyer," which are among the last of their kind.

Family attractions at Blackpool amusement park

In addition to the classic roller coasters, the Blackpool Pleasure Beach also offers innovative rides like "Icon," the UK's first double-launch roller coaster that thrills with rapid accelerations and tight turns. "Revolution" was Europe's first roller coaster with a full loop and remains a classic, while "Valhalla," an elaborate dark ride with water, fire, and snow effects, is considered one of the longest and most expensive indoor attractions in the world. For families with young children, there is "Nickelodeon Land," an area with kid-friendly rides and popular characters like Spongebob Squarepants or PAW Patrol, offering colorful fun for the little ones.

Magical evenings at amusement park

The park is not only known for its rides but also for its spectacular shows. The "Hot Ice" revue, a glamorous ice show performed during the peak season, has received numerous awards and combines impressive choreography with stunning costumes. Seasonal events like "Journey to Hell" for Halloween or Christmas pantomimes ensure that the park offers variety all year round. The experience is complemented by a variety of dining options, from quick fast food to international cuisine, as well as shops offering souvenirs, toys, and clothing.

The development of the Blackpool Pleasure Beach reflects the rise of the city of Blackpool as a pioneer of modern mass tourism, which began in the 19th century with the railway connection. The park has survived difficult times like the World Wars and steadily grew with new attractions while preserving its nostalgic character. Among the oldest active rides are the 1904 "Sir Hiram Maxim’s Captive Flying Machines," a historic chain carousel, and the 1905 "River Caves of the World," a gentle water ride. These relics of the past stand side by side with modern highlights, giving the park a special timelessness.

Unfortunately this theme park goes down. This time was a family visit .The park wasn't very busy so we went on most of the rides with very little or no wait in the queue. Is it worth the money? It's not from me.Why?The park needs complete refurbishment.Looks very scrappy, food quality is very poor and toilets are disgusting. We paid full price but some of the rides were closed. That should reflect in the price. We went on the most of the rides but if the weather is nice you will end spending in queue more than three hours if want to go on all rides.Looks like management is patching where possible but that doesn't really work.

We came with our disabled daughter and access to the rides was so bad that we left after three attempts. The easy access entrances where not easy often involving two to three flights of stairs. Some of the staff had no idea of how to help us and didn’t know where the easy access entrances were some of the staff appeared not to care less when asked for help. All in all if you have a disabled child or need wheelchair access I’d avoid coming.

So guys the park is still charging full price tickets when there's atleast 30 percent of the rides shut this is absolutely crazy for an opening of the season for a park. They also mention air race would be closed for those season yet they have fully removed it from the app list of rides ect so that clearly means it's gone for good so why not just tell us this

We took out teenage daughters and had a fantastic day out the longest que was for the big one but that was only around 45 mins. The roller coasters are fantastic. Facilties were clean. Some of the rides not in use look run down and bring the overall look down but other than that a great day out

Always enjoy a trip to the pleasure beach. All the staff always seem lovely the only thing that took away one star is the pricing. Can be quite an expensive day out if you're a family of 4.
